On my last blog post I emphasis strongly on how hormonal imbalance has lead to most cases of adult acne. In this post, I shall talk about causes of female adult acne, and on my next post, I will be talking about treatment for female adult acne.
For female acne, the statistics of the causes of female adult acne due to hormonal imbalance is even greater. I would say, for most female adults, it is due to their irregular menstrual and pregnancy that caused hormonal imbalance. Nonetheless it could also be due to other factors like diet and stress. This kind of hormonal causes is commonly seen in teen or early adult hood females below the age of 30 and is mostly the causes of female adult acne.
It is said that outbreaks for female adult acne occurred frequently the week before their menstrual cycle, which is why it is term as premenstrual acne. During premenstrual cycle, women tend to experience hormonal “haywire” due to androgen( a male sex hormones) stimulation, the hormonal imbalance will cause their sebaceous glands to produce excess sebum. Pregnant women also tends to have hormonal acne outbreaks after giving birth.
Some of the other signs of female adult acne due to hormonal changes is irregular menstrual cycle, diabetes, obesity and infertility.
If any of these rings any bell to you, high chance is that your adult acne is due to female hormonal acne. Normal topical over-the-counter (OTC) treatment sometimes hardly works for hormonal acne, and hormonal acne often proves a challenge to be treated. Doctors often prescribed low dosage birth control pills to control female hormonal acne.
