proactiv
I have moderate/severe acne and have tried everything possible. So many people have suggested i try proactiv- so i’ve been using it for the past month. Yet, i haven’t really seen much progress. I was just wondering how long it has taken for others who have used it to see results?
Lots of people have suggested i see a dermatologist- I should have noted, i have been seeing one since i was in middle school. I have tried every perscription out there and even been told i need accutane three times. but, i am too scared. even after all the creams and pills i’ve tried that did not work, i will not go that far. i’m just trying to rid my body of all the perscriptions that are putting my body out of whack, and try something that is completely different and less harsh compared to all the other junk i’ve been using. So far with proacive, i have no redness or irritation. My face hasn’t gotten better, but it hasn’t gotten worse either. so i’m content but just wondering how it worked timewise for others. and yes, i’ve been to acne.org millions of times. but i just wanted to straight-up ask the general public:)

You see changes the very next day. They aren’t MAJOR changes but your skin gets softer. By atleast a week your skin will look FLAWLESS! You must use it every day though!

i use(d) it. i don’t really commit to a system anymore.
it takes a little while to work, but it doesn’t work as well i was hoping. here’s a tip: go for a cream that has about 10% of benzyol poroxide. its strong stuff, but if you use it only where your spots are, it works better than a system, or combined

This is going to be a long night of answering acne questions which people seem to know nothing about.

BP cream (aka benzoyl peroxide) is what is in Proactive. You can go to your local grociery store and buy BP cream (2.5%/5% in Vanishing or Cover-up) form. The reason they don’t have 10% is it is too strong and studies show that 10% burns your face longer, keeps it red longer and does no more than 2.5%/5%.

Go to and read the forums. Thousands of members, with thousands of acne options. Read, read, read and find which options are best for you. You may be at the point where your acne is severe enough that it is time to head to a prescription medicine.

Sorry, but I get annoyed when people get suckered into companies that sell something that they say works, when they can go and buy the same product for 90% less.

EDIT: I went on Accutane once before I started my BP regimen. Honestly, it screwed me up badly. I had the most severe depression I thought I could ever have. However, it seemed like every person that had it bad like me another 9 accutane users were fine. In the end, I was really glad I went on it because I walked away with really only one scar, which people say, “hey you had chicken pocks.”

I used it for at least a year or two, and it barely helped at all. It TOTALLY dried out my skin, which made my face turn red and I looked extremely sun burnt at school…..some people even said “Whoa. You got sun burnt….” lol. So yeah, I REALLY don’t suggest using it. Yet, it does seem to work for some people. Go to a dermatologist and see what they recommend you using…..
Hope I helped. =)

I started seeing redness decrease in the first month from the toner. After 2 months it started really working better. I also use an antibiotic topical solution that I got from a dermatologist. If your acne does not get better soon you might want to see one. That is the only way you can get the antibiotic soln and some other options.
