The term “oil” in acne terms  is called sebum. So what is the relationship between oil and acne and how does oil cause acne?

Overactive sebaceous glands cause excess oil production for your skin. Oil that are trapped in clogged pores will cause comedones, better known as blackheads or whiteheads. If bacteria comes to play a part, it will cause further inflammation. Inflammation will turn seemingly harmless comedone to more harmful pimple or even cystic acne.

Excessive oil is the main causes of acne, and bacteria(P.acnes) that cause further irritation on your skin, feeds on oil. In order for the bacteria to survive on your skin, it must feed on sebum. Oil trap inside your skin pores is almost the beginning of the acne growth. The underlying reason for excessive oil production is hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalance will cause overactive sebaceous glands to produce excess oil.

Most products WON’T get rid of oil!

Many people liken the use of over-the-counter treatment to remove excess oil. I beg to differ, my opinion is that these treatment are only getting rid of the effects, not the causes. Even if you get rid of excessive oil on your skin, further hormonal imbalance will only cause more oil to be produce on your skin. The only way to stop excessive oil production, is to work on the cause, and that is to prevent overactive sebaceous glands. One way to do it effectively is control your body hormonal balance. Read more about hormonal acne.

If you are keen to learn about treating acne(that includes working on the causes), you can sign up for my FREE acne e-course below. There are two products that work on the causes of acne, not the effects. I did a review on both of these products. The two products are Clearogen and Acnezine. While other products in the market are getting rid of excessive oil, these two products work by preventing excessive oil. Remember the health tagline “Prevention is better than cure”, it works the same for acne. Furthermore, having oily skin is not what a good skin care should be like.
